Mr. Stead, of Messrs. Candy, Stead and Co., of Christchurch, is travelling through this district with a view to buying up dairy produce. On Wednesday he made a bargain with Mr. Chew Chong, of Eltham, for a line of 140 kegs of prime butter. Mr. Stead says he has had forty years constant practice in the trade, but that he never sampled a better lot of butter in his life than that purchased by him at Eltham on Wednesday. Mr. Chew Cbong and his manager, an Ashburton man, may take credit to themselves for such a reward. Mr. Stead travels out to Manaia to-day, and, from what fell from him in conversation, we gather that if the Manaia Dairy Factory directors desire to sell out there they might find a purchaser in Mr. Stead.
