IN BANKRUPTCY. A MANAIA CHINAMAN

IN BANKRUPTCY. A MANAIA CHINAMAN. The affairs of Lui Moon Lun, who lately filed a petition in bankruptcy, were investigated at the Assignee's office on Monday last. There was only one creditor, Mr Hop Fook Chong, of Wellington, who obtained a judgment against-the debtor,": Lui: Mbon Lun,' for the sum of £132 19s Bd. The only assets in the estate were an alleged contra of £31 14s 6d. The creditor was personally present with his solicitor, Mr Seliar, and Mr Bennett, of Manaia, re-, presented the bankrupt. The bankrupt* on examination by Mr Sellar on oath (by blowing out a match) said that since July, 1913, he had been working for his cousin, Daniel Louis, formerly of Wellington, but now living at Manaia,' and that he had no interest in the business of Daniel Louis and Co. Bankrupt opened a bank account in the name of Daniel Louis and operated on it by cheques signed by Daniel Louis. His cousin never signed cheques on it while the account stood in the name of Daniel Louis. The account is still current, and there is a sum of £28 ix> credit. In October, 1913, Daniel Louis j came to Manaia and opened another aci count in the name of Daniel Louis and Co. Bankrupt signed cheques on that account. He also signed the lease ''Daniel Louis," and it was never transferred to Daniel Louis and Co. He received ae wages £2 a week and tucker and accommodation. Did not sell any business at Manaia to Daniel Louis. The business belonged all through, to Daniel Louis. After some discussion, -the meeting was adjourned for a fortnight to enable further investigations to be made into the relationship between, the bankrupt and his cousin Daniel Louis.
