FOOTBALL PATEA CLUB'S MEETING

The annual meeting of the Patea Football Club was held on Saturday night, Mr C. M. Strouts presiding over a gathering of about; 60 members. The balance sheet showed a debit balance of £14' Os 10d. In moving the adoption of-the-report and balance sheet, Mr. Strouts stressed the fact that the Taranaki Rugby Union had failed to keep its promise with regard to the payment of £20 for the rent of the sports ground. The travelling expenses of the club were heavy owing to its territory being at the extreme end of the district. The gate receipts, Mr. Strouts stated, would have been greater had the union arranged for One match instead of two on Saturdays at times. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron: Mr. G. V. Pearee; president, Mr. A. T.-'Christensen; chairman, Mr. Strouts having declined nomination, Mr. McKenna was unanimously appointed to the position and took the chair. In thanking the members for their, confidence in him Mr. McKenna paid a warm tribute to the work of Mr. Strouts on behalf not only of the football club and town,. but of the Empire as a whole during the past eight years. He moved "that Mr. Strouts be elected a life member of the club, was seconded by Mr. Hunt and carried unanimously with cheers.
